I have followed with interest this thread. For quite a few years now NAMDRA has had a show class at their meets for non-AMC powered AMC's and I have gotten no complaints about this class. In fact, some of the non-AMC powered AMC's have gotten a lot of attention from those attending the meets, like for the past few years the Hemi powered Rambler that a member has shown at our meets. One problem with not having a class for these cars is that the AMC clubs in their applications do not state your AMC has to be AMC powered in order to join the club, thus you have those with non-AMC powered AMC's join the club/s because they do have an AMC! But one thing NAMDRA has always done and that is in the race portion of our meets, the vehicles must be AMC powered but do not have to be AMC's. We have had dragsters, roadsters, funny cars, a Corvette!, Henry J, homebuilt, etc. race but they were all AMC powered. We will again have that rule for our 2005 meet, the AMC NATIONALS, but in our next newsletter we will have a form for members to vote on (the racers) to see if they want to change this rule for 2006. I, myself, would like to see all AMC's be AMC powered but do realize it is a free country and some people like to do their own thing. Plus the fact that AMC engines are getting rarer and rarer, especially the 390's & 401's. So I will not cut down anyone that put another make engine in their AMC but wish they hadn't! My one thought is that if NAMDRA does allow non-AMC powered AMC's to race, then we should start off with the Chrysler Corp. powerplants seeing they did buy AMC. In fact, I remember IHRA allowing Mopar crate engine in AMC's in one class and be legal.
