After following this thread for awhile I think many of you guys are going to hate my plans for the new Mexico Crusher 72 Javelin. I paid $500 for a motorless car with no title. It wasn't worth much more. I was going to build a 401 with fuel injection, overdrive trans and all the newer tricks. I don't have a core motor or any of the underhood parts as the car has manual drum brakes that are gutted. I want disc brakes and all the latest tricks to make this car a real cruising car. After weighing my options, I have decided to go with a newer 5.7 Hemi motor and overdrive auto trans. I plan to use as much from the doner vehicle as possible as most of the stock stuff is just not usable.I really don't care about judging as I had the most fun at Kenosha then any judged shows I have attended with my various AMC cars. The first time I take one of my cars to an AMC show and I am told it is not good enough or stock enough, will probably be the last time I will attend one of these shows.!
I feel that I have saved this car from certian destruction, and if I want to upgrade it so I can drive it to more shows, I will. If the car was a rare model or something more valuable, I would not take this route. That is why I sold my Donohue and did not Prostreet it. What is the difference between me using a Chrysler motor and Chrysler trans since it already had a Chrysler trans anyway? It is not much different then putting a 401 in a Nash.
