the glow could be from the wrong bulb.  the alt light ckt is very
sensitive to bulb resistance and will glow if you replace the spec
with a brighter bulb.  afaik it's just cosmetic and doesn't affect
anything.

stock alt was 35a, with 42a and 55a all in the same case and using the
same reg.  i always get a 55 if/when i need a replacement.
