The single evaporator you mention will work fine for the front. The only time I had trouble was in July and August in MS. Then the AC was better than nothing, but wouldn't cool the 63 Classic wagon down very much. Just point the vents at your face and drive! The condenser is going to be more important than the evaporator though. I was using a standard condensor. Now I have a parallel flow model from a Chrysler LHS. Haven't used it yet, but that is supposed to be a high efficiency condensor. The radiator won't be a problem either. I'm using a two core and never had an overheating problem with the AC. I ran the under dash AC unit in the one that was wrecked, haven't got the new car AC hoses made yet. I don't know where you'd put the second evaporator... I guess it's just a larger under dash unit? I would get a large single evaporator though. Like I said, mine wasn't what I'd call anywhere near adequate during the 6-8 hottest weeks in MS, was just better than nothing! Anywhere ! north of Jackson MS and it would probably have been adequate -- should be adequate for Atlanta, but not Jacksonville!! You really just need to figure out what diameter pulley tou need for the AC if you're going to run a separate belt for it. Even the older factory systems mounted the second pulley via the balancer puller holes. You can get a falt pulley from any good farm supply store, and should find one at a REAL old fashioned hardware store (Ace around here carries a decent selection. IIRC the pulley was usually the same size as the balancer. Just get three bolts and make some spacers for the pulley. Of course you'll need to accurately locate the three holes to drill in the pulley. The means you have to take the pulley off the pull the balancer, but how often do you do that? The original AC in the 63 Classic I have now was set up that way (195.6 engine). On April 5, 2005 Jim Boone wrote: > > There's a bunch of photos of mainly the compressor install. I'd have to find a 2-groove PS pulley, but I'm not sure that I can get it down to the balancer without interference. I haven't got the parts yet, hopefully this week or next, so still speculating. > > For an evaporator, many are wanting to sell me a dual-evap system. I don't distrust their reasoning, that a single evap won't cool down the back of a station wagon, but I really don't want to go that way. Most of the AC shops don't or won't rate their evap units for BTU's or fan/flow rate, so it's hard to compare/get a large capacity unit. I figure to get the largest/highest capacity front cool-only unit and that will suffice. It should keep the front cool. I don't have kids - just the wife and I - so am not totally concerned with keeping the rear to the same standard as the front seat. > > Another item is the alternator output. I have the stock setup, and the "alt" light faintly glows when I have the headlights on. Figure to upgrade that. I think stock is 37 amps or so. Advance Auto has a 61 amp unit new w/lifetime warranty for ~$35. I'm thinking of getting that and a new voltage regulator. > > I've also ordered a new radiator, 3 row max cooling, for a '79 V8 Spirit. I have a '82 Spirit radiator in it now so I know it fits as the original did. Should be here soon. > > I'll have cool air by summer for the drive to Atlanta! > > Jim Boone > Mims, FL > > ============================================================= > Posted by wixList Archiver -- http://www.amxfiles.com/wixlist > > > > > > . ============================================================= Posted by wixList Archiver -- http://www.amxfiles.com/wixlist
