There are some guys on the list that maybe interested in the following. I have been collecting Kent Moore Tools for some time and have in my collection 4 different styles of the coil spring compressor tools used by AMC for the trunnion style front suspension. J-7389 fits 1958-69 10 & 80 series cars. Has a solid forged prong that measures 5" between centers (this is the part that fits into the holes on the coil spring assy). The distance across the curved side plate is 7 1/2". Early models are painted a light green, later models a dark blue. J-23123-9 This model replaced the J-7389 and has the same dimensions. The big change is on the prong. It is now made from three stamped metal pieces each 1/8th" thick and then riveted together. This model comes in 2 variations with and without extra wings welded to the curved side plate. I have no idea why or why the extra wing modification did not get a change in tool number. All of the other tool numbers have the wings. J-7842 fits 1958-69 01, 30, & 70 series cars. Has a solid forged prong that measures 6 1/4" between centers. The distance across the curved side plate is 6 3/4". Painted dark blue J-7842-15 This model replaced the J-7842 and has the same dimensions. The big change is on the prong. It is now made from three stamped metal pieces each 1/8th" thick and then riveted together. Painted dark blue These are some of the toughest AMC Kent Moore tools to find. Granted AMC KM tools are getting harder and harder to find but when you do run across a stash usually the spring compressors are missing. There was also a version used at the factory but this was just the prong no curved side plate, and may have been used on the assembly line at installation. Hope this helps someone find the tools they need to work on their car. Bill Strobel Independent Towing Fayetteville NC __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
