As the song goes, " you can't do the things you used to do, 35 years ago"... Not sure any other car company would have the guts to try that innovation again today, but then , the Nissan Murano looks like a Gremlin, especaill if there was a 4 door Gremmy, as per an automotive writer in an article I recently saw. I guess the now cancled SMART car from DUMBLER BENZ is like a gremlin in concept as well............. April 1, April fools day, 1970- announcment day for the Gremlin. I remember my dad finding out that there were all these red white and blue gremlins stored in a dealers storage lot in Chelsea, mass, and on a cold sunday in late march, we drove down and saw them through a fence. They were getting them ready for the APRIL 1 dealer driveaway and announcement show at Logan airport in boston, which I guess turened out to be a cold and snowy day. The cars were all put in a hanger where the meeting was held, and from I heard, someone by mistake opened the hanger doors too early during the meeting, and the cold and wind went through the place like you know what throuhg a goose. Oh the memories of that event from what I heard. I was involved in other amc drive ways some years later, and it was alwasy colorful and interesting, but thats another story. At this time, I was a senior in High school, doing a report on the car business, of course...and took some pictures with my polaroid, w! hich I found a few years ago. Maybe they are still be posted on Bob Wilson's Arctic Boy web site for gremlin. happy birthday to the grelin owners. I don't own one, but drove my share of them through the years.- Including getting my only speeding ticket in a 77 2 litre Gremlin X in sunburst orange with the black plaid seats with the orange piping, all loaded up. It was a real sporty looker, catching the eye I guess, of the maine cop who said I was doing 75 in Fort kent maine- the end of the world. Tried to explain to him that this thing wouldn't do 75MPH. oh well, happy birthday.... ============================================================= Posted by wixList Archiver -- http://www.amxfiles.com/wixlist
