1971 AMC Hornet SST 2 door, assistance please.

Hey everyone!
Is anyone on this list in Tucson? I just moved here
and I have a 1971 AMC Hornet SST 2-door. I actually
would love to get help fixing this, I'm a full time
student (I'm 35, going back to school after so many
years driving a cab in Vegas and HAVING to find
something else to do, driving a cab there is
STRESSFUL!). I'm broke as heck, but I love my car and
I love AMCs. I'm trying to keep my hornet on the road,
desperately trying, and a club is an awesome resource.
I just got ripped off, badly, by a mechanic in Vegas,
and am having a leaky transmission (damn borg-warner
crap). I paid to have my transmission repaired when it
failed, it was the original transmission and I think
it lasted 124k miles. Also has damaged gears on the
flywheel due to a defective starter (front of the gear
on the starter came LOOSE from the damn thing) from
Autozone. Think I've got the correct part coming in
from Pep Boys (nobody else could find it, and Pep Boys
had to special order it.
A little about my car, she's blue, originally was
golden lime metallic (I think that's the correct
name), was painted (poorly) white by a previous owner,
and is now sapphire blue metallic (very close to the
original darker metallic blue that you see on so many
of those lovely lovely SC/360s. The upholstery in the
back is great, interior could use a little, but not a
lot, of work, REALLY good shape actually except for a
big rip on the driver's seat (covered with a seat
cover) and driver's head rest. I love my car, a lot,
and have spent money I couldn't afford and went
without meals to keep her on the road. I believe she's
only got 124,000 miles on her, but possibly has
224,000 (although I'd seriously seriously doubt it)
About me, I'm 35, and I love AMCs, especially
hornets. It might be a foolish love 'cause my
mechanical know-how is almost nothing! My first car
was a '77 hornet sedan 4 door and I've loved them ever
since. I just moved to Tucson 2 months ago and like it
here a LOT better than Vegas. I see so many rust free
cars here! As I did in Vegas of course. :-) I used to
drive a taxi in Vegas, from the time I was 25 'til
about 2 1/2 years ago. It was very dangerous with huge
amounts of stress. When my ex and I split up a little
over 3 years ago she got or destroyed most everything
I had of any worth to me, but didn't dare touch the
hornet! My current girlfriend likes the hornet, thinks
it has a character that suits me, but doesn't want to
drive it, so I don't have to share! I'm now going for
a teaching degree. I took all internet classes in
Vegas this spring semester 'cause I wasn't sure when
I'd be moving, so although I am taking classes now I'm
flexible 'til I transfer to either Pima community
college or UofA in the fall. ANYONE who's on this list
or knows AMCs, feel free to contact me! I love to find
out more about hornets and AMCs. I also love the
Gremlin, Javelins, and Eagles, with a strong liking
for the Concords (would love to have one of those as a
daily driver, and let my Hornet rest).
