There is no quick and easy way to put a V-8 in an Eagle. You HAVE to fabricate something! The existing crossmember can be modified to hold a V-8, but requires welding. Then you have to fab mounts for the front axle too, as it is bolted to the longer inline six. The only way to bolt in more power is to use get a Jeep 4.0L engine. Just lift all the EFI components out of a Jeep and bolt them in. There are some caveats, but no fabrication is involved if you keep the original 998 trans and use a CPS relocater kit from HESCO or one of the trans adapter companies. To use the AW4 OD auto you'd have to modify the trans crossmember and driveshaft lengths, but wouldn't need the relocater kit. Cost would be close to the same, but the AW4 needs 3.31 - 3.73 gears. It won't work well with the really low Eagle auto gears. I tried running 3.08 gears with the AW4 -- didn't like that either!
