I need one (1) INTAKE rocker arm for a 258, used is fine, anyone have one to spare?
I put the new oilpan on my (1982) 258 today, found that though the engine really was recently rebuilt, they did a sh*t job. Oh well. The block was clearly boiled out, new pistons, perfect bore (what I could see from below). But the bearing caps were dirty in the webbing, and there was non-metallic debris (paint flakes, bit of gasket, etc) in the old pan. Don't people know dirt kills engines? Sheesh. Doesn't appear to be fatal, I just hope journals aren't badly scored.
Before I fill it with oil, I think I'll pour (only) Rislone down from the valve cover to wash loose crap into the pan, drain, add oil, then spin up the oil pump. And a couple of rapid-fire oil changes, 100 mile, 500 mile, just to gather grit.
ANyways, it had it's valve cover off for a bit before I got it, I kept it wrapped in a towel then plastic, dry and clean, but there was minor debris there, and the rockers were dirty, they didn't hot-tank them.
If I had time and money and the right shop I would tear the whole thing down, but I'm considering this to be a "used motor" and will
