Re: Power steering pump noises

A: I've had bad belts and cracked pulleys make noise, and sometimes the
pulleys touch between top (waterpump) and bottom (crank) due to sloppy
waterpump bearings. I had to loosen the bolts on the used waterpump I
installed on my J4000 and lift the pump up slightly to get the pulleys to
stop clacking together.

Hi guys, I believe my PS pump has a loose pulley or a bad bearing or
something. At certain rpm's as I accelerate I hear a rattling coming from
under the hood. It goes away if i let up0 on the gas or if I go above the
speed I hear the rattle noise. I am going to take the belt off the pump
temporarily to see if that is the cuplrit. If it is, where can I get
another pump or get this one rebuilt? The pump works great. It is an
"add-on" by the previous owner but is an "AMC Authorized" pump. Not a
"Kluged" aftermarket unit.
