AMC ICE SKATING with a1966 Classic

To-day was supposed to be a nice Friday.
NOT TO BE.

A Nice slack day at work.
My plans were to Pick up a 35,000 mile 1966 4 door Classic that had been hit
in the passenger door. The car was written off.
6 cylinder old lady car. Very nice shape. $300.00US
So Friday morning I wander into work in old faithful. 1974 IH 1/2TON.
-15F with wind-chill but the heats good in the old girl.

Around 3.00Pm the Wind and Snow picks up. The snow blowing across the roads
turns them into a skating rink in places.
Can't be that bad so I venture over to SGI( Saskatchewan Government
Insurance) to pickup the car.

First problem is the front Tire is shredded. and the Battery is dead.
I hooked on the hand winch and cranked the hell out of it to get up on the
Dolly.
Everything is Okay at this point.
I should have left the keys and called a cab.

On the 5 mile drive home things started to happen.
I made an uneventful trip to the highway for the 4 mile ride home on a duel
lane straight road.

The first thing I noticed was the Spots of isolated Ice covering the
highway. Not a problem,
I backed off the gas just before reaching the patches and coasted over
them.
This worked for 3.5 miles worth of highway.

The last 1/2 mile turned out to be solid ICE.
 Well then the fun started.

I backed off the gas to coast over this stretch of Hockey rink.
I must have backed off too much as the trucks ass end started to swing into
the passenger side ditch.
I Steered into the slide to correct things but realized the ditch was
coming.
Okay this is going to be an interesting ride.
I did a quick mirrors check and no vehicles were around. I then figured if
I would give her gas and try to pull out of the slide.

NOPE,
At This point I realized I was along for the Ride.

The 66 Classic dropped into the Passenger side Ditch pulling the rear of
the truck to the passenger side of the road.
I learned that if you are going into a ditch any other way than straight
you put your foot to the floor so as not to roll the vehicle.

Well automatically I nail the gas and find some grip to pull me forward and
onto the highway.
Unfortunately I am now doing 50 MPH broadside across a duel lane skating
rink swinging a 3500lb Pendulum behind me.

At this point I am in need of a change of shorts.

Next thing that happens is the broadside slide of both vehicles is ended as
the front wheels of the truck meet the driver side ditch.
I still have my foot in the gas trying to stay off my shorts that need
changing.
The 3500lb 66 Classic still wants to hit the ditch at 50MPH so the it
drives the ass end of the truck into the ditch and bends the Dolly hitch
coupler
and pulls the center of my rear bumper out.
Picture a truck with a car at a 90 degree angle from it.

Good points
I am okay.
66 classic is okay.
Truck is Okay and will survive.

Does it end here.
NO.

I phone home to get my son and the 89 4x4 Jimmy to come and tow me out.

On the way to help me some woman pulls out in front of him and BOOM. He
nails her.
Their 94 Colt van is Written off. The Jimmy takes another hit on the front
end.

HER fault so no problem.
Everyone is Okay
The Jimmy will be written off so now I need a 1990 or so Jeep.

Back to the Stuck IH and 3500 lb Pendulum.

I realize that the Jimmy won't pull the truck and car out of the ditch so a
tow truck pulls off the 66 Classic and tows it home. $90.00
Apparently double time is charged at -15F temperatures.
The jimmy pulls the Truck out and all is now as well as can be expected.

Sorry for the long post .
Good thing I have hi test Beer on hand.

Later
