Mark,

If the stripe does not peal back easily, try a heat gun to loosen up the 
glue.  They also make a pad for a buffer that strips vinyl off of a body 
panel.  Since you are repainting the car, I wouldn't worry too much about 
which process you use.

I'm having my car repainted next week and I'll be
replacing the stripe.  What is the best way to remove
the old stripe?  Any suggestions?
