Re: Suspension Lowering

Either using lowering blocks or moving the spring mounts is the most common way to lower a rear axle with leaf springs. You can buy dearched leaf springs, or make an arm to replace the leaf in front and a third arm to prevent axle wind up (or two links on top) and use coil over shocks. No matter what you're going to lose some travel. Moving the bump stops will help, but make sure there is room for the wheel to go up in the well. Note that you won't likely need as much travel. In most cases if you lower the car without reducing travel some the bottom will drag occasionally. The only thing not reducing travel is good for is if you want to go with air bags and lower the car to the ground when at rest. In that case I've seen people remove all but the main leaf and use a "traction bar" in front of the axle. The bar I'm talking about bolts to the spring perch and usually the front eye mount of the leaf spring, effectively making the front of the leaf a solid arm with little (if an!
 y) flex.
