Re: 83 Eagle rear brake drums

Wayne,

Look to see if there are three screws holding the drum on to the axle flange. I don't know how long AMC did this but it was done in the 60's. Also, there may be a clip over one or more wheel studs that you need to remove. The clips are usually tossed during the first brake job but you never know. Also, this topic came up in the past few months and there were several ways people came up with to free a stuck drum. You may want to search the archives at http://www.amxfiles.com for ways to remove them.

Just got the new 83 Eagle home and noticed the rear brakes are real
touchy. Went to inspect the rear brakes and the drums don't want to come
off. Surprise. The Chiltons (never liked them) says to remove the axle
nut but the next pic shows the drum removed and the axle nut still on. I
don't think the nut has to come off and it looks like the drum should
slide over everything, just needs a little more heat to persuade it. Who
has a definitive answer?
