The 700R4 is just an easy to work with tranny that I'm already familiar with. I can get a freshly rebuilt 700R4 with a shift kit and a 2000 rpm stall converter for only $795. I will never make enough power to break it and properly maintained can expect 100,000 plus miles from it. The bad side is the added parts to fit it in, adapter, cables, yoke, stuff like that that adds to the total cost. If someone can point me towards a AW4 that I can interface with the stock speedo and that's 2wd I'd certainly consider it strongly. I'm surprised you don't like the 4L60 I've beaten the hell out of one behind a LS1 for 3 years and still haven't had any issues. ~John ============================= Firstly, use Forward Air for shipping - for Fed Ex etc. Most Salvage Yards have contracts with shippers that allow them to ship entire engines for $100.00. A 2wd Aw4 is a Toyota Supra Turbo Transmission. Both are made by Aisin - same transmission - different tailshaft. Go for a '96 or newer engine as the engine blocks had a lot of improvements - the prices are all the same except for the '99 and up which command a few more hundred dollars. Try using www.car-parts.com for the JEEP engine. I am of the opinion too, that a 700r4 is too heavy - too old and too expensive using more HP to spin as well. Brien.
