list noise

I just returned from a business trip to Zurich and, much to my disbelief,
the list again seems to have spun out of control on personality issues
rather than focusing on AMC related subjects.
Frankly, I really don't care who likes whom or which member has a grudge
against any other list member. And yes, I am one of the long term list
members from the early 90s who got out of the hobby while pursuing other
interests and a heavy workload with lots of business travel but have been
back with a lot of activity mostly from buying parts and reconnecting with
old friends over the last 6 months to a year.
I truly respect everyone's opinion on the list be recognize if to be just
that, their opinion, unless it is backed up by hard technical data such as
specifics like mechanical specs or what have you. What I have never
understood is why we, being such a small and targeted hobby group, have to
continuously bash one another. This is absolutely senseless and can only
lead to the one thing none of us want, disenfranchised members who say to
hell with it and get out as many of us have done for a number of different
reasons.
Think about it for a minute, if someone gets tired of the nonsense and says
I am done, then they are much more likely to rip up a car and sell it for
parts because, as we all know, individual pieces are mostly worth more than
whole cars. Also, each time someone who was dabbling in making parts
available ends that practice, legitimate business or not, there is one less
source of parts to draw from.
If we want to contribute to the ultimate extinction of a hobby of what most
mainstream auto enthusiats consider to be odd little cars driven by an
already quirky group of people then lets just keep on bashing each other as
the list has demonstrated over the last week or so. If not, then let's stick
to the business at hand of helping each other out and offering advice and
opinions when requested. Not everybody is going to like every other person
in the hobby but the list is no place to make that difference public. I
have been flamed in the past on thhis list and no doubt will be flamed again
but, frankly, I could care less.
If someone wants to flame me then have a ball if it makes you feel better
about yourself. I know who I am and all the list flaming in the world isn't
going to change my self respect for a second.
My suggestion is very simple. Lets agree that we stick to the business of
supporting this AMC hobby and forget about all that other noise which is
nothing more than a distraction from our real purpose of supporting the
continuation of AMC cars and those who enjoy owning them
And by the way, if I misspelled any words or used improper grammer all it
shows is that my fingers aren't as quick as my thought process or that I was
in a hurry to finish a post. It certainly does not mean that I am ignorant
or stupid...geez!

Dan Curtis
