MOPAR clubs. Oh my God! This is just what we need. Even though Chryco has managed to get a hold of what remains of AMC and tries to eliminate AMC from history by dumping parts (literally) and dealers so we would have to by MOPARS (no thanks), they want us to belive we are welcome to bring AMCs to MOPAR meets. Heck, we can even compete. Well, thanks but no thanks. The ultimate insult was the inclusion of an AMX on a MOPAR calendar and refuring to it as a MOPAR. So how many clubs does one need to belong to? How many sets of dues do you send in a year? How many local chapters can you belong to and support? How many national meets can you attend? AND... when you attend a rare joint national meet when you are a member of several clubs, where do you park that 1969 AMX??? Do you go to the AMO, AMCRC, AMX (AMCWC), NAMDRA, ????? area. Way to many decisions. Way to many hassles. Maybe I'll just go modern and skip the hassles. NB: special thanks to Jock who says I don't care what club you belong to or if you even belong to a club, you are welcome on my field. Guys and gals, this is what it should be all about. NOW-- 2005... (and I know this has been long and if you are still reading, then thank you!) as we watch our source for cars and parts dwindle at an alarming rate what has changed in 30 or so years. Cars have come and gone. Parts have become nearly on-existant. Early AMC enthusiasts have come and gone (either by maintaining a low profile or leaving the hobby entirely through disgust or death). New, younger people enter the hobby. This is good. This is the only way the hobby will survive. But they do not nor can they ever understand why the hobby is as it is and why we feel they way we do. So to those who have commented in this thread: Rick, yes, this again. Jock- Right on! I have not been a member of any club for over 10 years now. I do, however attend local and national meets. As I said, I have never been a member of your club and would not recognize you if I saw you. If I were to join a national AMC club at this time, it would be yours. Not because I enjoy all the type of activities that your club does and perhaps is probably your main emphasis, BUT BECAUSE OF the attitude of you and your members. If there is one national club that has the right attitude and knows how to treat all AMC owners regardless of the type of car they own or other club affiliations it is NAMDRA. Frank- I have thought there were way to many clubs since day 3. I often joke that there have been more clubs for AMCs than AMC made cars. Obviously a stretch, but in my sarcasm a point was made. Can there be one super AMC car club at this time. Maybe, but it would have to be a brand new organization. There is too much bad blood here. Maybe in another 40 years or so when everyone who has lived through this is no longer around you may have a chance but I doubt it. Even new member to existing soon are indoctrinated into the beliefs of their club. AMO, the way it is currently, and has been run for decades now is not and WILL NOT ever be the choice of clubs to assume the allmighty mantle of supreme club if your merger ever happens. Don't be fooled by their elected board of directors being the answer. Remember, most importantly, these other clubs exist BECAUSE of how AMO is and was run. To think the other clubs will reunite under that banner is just nonsence. The only way AMO will become the supreme club will not be through "merger" but because leaders such as Larry (who already has called it quits) and Jock (who will eventually) are gone and no clubs will be left except AMO and that will be a sad day indeed for the AMC hobby. This was never more evident to me than at the grand 2002 Super National Kenosha show as well as initial crap that went on behind the scenes for the 2004 Kenosha show. And what is the biggest trajedy is all the local AMC owners that have to suffer. Thanks for listening.
