Instead of a v8 swap, how about a twin turbo 258!!!!!! Just a thought. In 72 AMC went to a split harness. It separates at the firewall so the conversion would take a V8 crossmember and the front, under the hood section of the harness. Unfortunately 71's don't separate so it requires replacing the entire harness. The other options are to replace the entire harness with a Painless harness (can be expensive) or cut and paste to make the 6 cyl harness longer under the hood. This second idea is considerably less expensive but can be a little time consuming and depending on how detail conscience you are, could be a little crude looking. In the long run this is a worthy modification so don't get discouraged.
