Jamie Smith (oconner_us@xxxxxxxxx), you said... >Just wanted to throw in my .02 on this. As I was reading these posts I >decided to go look at how it is installed on my 66 American. I know there >are going to be differences between the 66 american and the 64 classic but >here is how mine is set up. There is a good sized hole above and slightly >to the left (left if you are sitting in the drivers seat, right if you are >standing in front of and facing the car) or the hole where the parking >brake cable comes through. The hose is run throug some kind of a sleeve >(appears to be foam?...it was pretty dark and I couldn't tell for sure >what kind of material) and the sleeve rests in the hole. Inside the >firewall the hose runs to the foot pump, outside it runs to some kind of >fitting that is clamped to the firewall. There is then a same diameter >hose running from that fitting to the washer bag. There is a smaller hose >running from the fitting to the squirter nozzle thingy on the hood. Like I >said, I know there will be differences betwee! > n the 66 american and the 64 classic but this is how mine is installed. > >Gwen, if it would be of any help if you had pictures I could get a couple >digital pics of mine and send them to you. Let me know if that would be >helpful at all. ::nod:: I recently procured a partial washer set off eBay, and one of the items was the instructions, which mark this kit as being from 65-67 (it mentions the American, Ambassador, Classic, and Marlin). The schematic shows the hose going through a sponge rubber grommet to the right of the larger grommet (as you look in the engine bay). This is definitely a difference between the model years, as it's very different from the schematic in the '64 parts book (which shows the nylon tube thing). I was fortunate enough last night to get a decent photo of the foot pump in a '64 Ambassador, which clearly shows it going through the bottom of the large rubber grommet through the firewall. This is where I had been intending to route the hose, and at least now I have some image showing not only that this was how it was routed, but also showing the relative position of the foot pedal pump in the passenger compartment. I believe that's the last thing I was wondering about this install, which means I can finally move foreward on it. In the coming week, though, as I did the rear bumper install yesterday, and want to do some non-car stuff today. :-) Cheers, Gwen Smith ______^_____^______ (O|O) =RAMBLER= (O|O) Gwen Smith * gwen@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ------------------- www.gwensmith.com/interests/rambler \-<>---|770|---<>-/
