Hi everyone, A while back, I purchased a Gas-savings secrets manual put out by George Wisemann at http://www.eagle-research.com. While I haven't tried any of his "gadgets" yet, I just started trying a trick from his manual, to increase fuel octane. This simple trick is to put a couple of MOTH BALLS into the gas tank and then fill it up. They have to be the NAPTHALENE type ... only these kind work. The moth balls dissolve into the gas and raise the octane rating of the gas. Ever since I swapped from the 2150 2-bbl to the Holley 600-cfm 4-bbl & Holley intake, I have a lot more pinging under load, even partial load. So much, that I've had to remove the vacuum advance hose to the distributor, as it was pinging A LOT with vacuum advance (any ideas on this you guys?) So, recently I switched from 87-octane gas to a tank of 93-octane and the pinging went away all but under full throttle on the expressway or when taking off at a light. I then tried a tank of 89-octane and noticed about the same amount of pinging as with 93-octane ... which I'm guessing the mixture of 87 that was in the tank and 93 that was added, resulted in a tank of probably 90-octane ... so the tank of 89-octane was near equal. The other day, I filled up again with 87-octane and added TWO napthalene moth balls to the tank. I am getter very little pinging at all. The only time I've heard it was under full throttle at take off, and it was very slight (compared to in the past). I'm going to keep trying it and see how it goes and will report back. Lastly, if anyone else tries this, one warning is the MORE IS NOT BETTER. While more moth balls will raise the octane rating, too much napthalene will burn the oil film off of cylinder walls, causing the rings to bind and prematurely wear the cylinder walls. George Wisemann's book "Super Gas Saver Secrets" says to use NO MORE THAN ONE MOTH BALL PER 5 GALLONS OF GAS. I only used 2 per 20-gallons, so I'll increase to more (3) at the next fill up and see if the pinging goes away more. ===== Sincerely, Greg Taylor :) <>< Rochester Hills, Michigan USA "I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead." - The Apostle Paul (Philippians 3:10-11) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
