A: And I have had just the opposite problem. I shipped a Grand Wagoneer
tailgate, which was in pristine condition, to New Jersey via UPS. 3 weeks
later we are trying to find it because it hasn't arrived. Another week
passes and I hear a THUMP in front of my house, so I go outside to see what
was left of my package unceremoniously dumped in the middle of my yard. (I
had my camera in hand, expecting to see another drunk/stoned driver impaled
on the back of the neighbor's truck or my 40 foot bus)
The box had been perforated by a forklift and had tire marks on it! I
found out that the delivery driver in NJ had driven to where it was supposed
to go, found out the item was going to an art shop where he had DUMPED a
$500,000 bust of Leonardo Da Vinci and dragged it across the road just a
week or so before, (why he wasn't fired at that time, I'll never know! Must
be named Guido or Fat Tony) causing a further $7,000 or so in damages to it.
(He left it on the sidewalk rather than drive into the spacious yard to
deliver it to the museum restoration outfit that wanted the tailgate for the
owner's personal wheels.)
Apparently he threw the package on the ground and drove over it, then
sent it back as refused. I had the main honcho for Seattle look at the
package and photos I took of it and the driver that threw it out as he was
driving away. Took me almost 6 months to get anything out of them, and it
was less than market value. Seems they thought it was "suspicious" how my
package was so badly damaged. They checked with the people expecting the
package (because there was no signature on the refusal order) and even told
them I was probably running some kind of scam!
Now I ship Fedex and other services unless I have to deal with UPS (at
least to the Eastern Seaboard)

Subject: Don't use Greyhound... Re: Greyhound shipping
Back in 1991, when I finished Navy Training in Orlando, I had to ship my
belongings up to Virginia and I chose Greyhound. Almost 1/2 of my stuff
was stolen (by the Greyhound freight handlers) and the rest was bashed to
bits. They didn't replace a thing either when I made a claim.
I have shipped very large & heavy computers via UPS and it has cost me $50
at the most.
