I've been compiling trim code data recently. I've noticed that the codes in the 82-85 data books are different than those on the door tag of the cars! The data book has a simple three character code like "NV1", which would be Individual Relcining Seats (N), Vinyl (V), Black (color code 1). The code on the door tag would be 031N or 31N (3 = model, Eagle; 1 = color, Black; N = Indv. Recl. Vinyl Seats). The year code is omitted. At least some 83 models have a zero in place of the year code (I have only one example), the two 84 models I have data for just have three characters. If you have an 83-88 car please send me the door tag info AND: 1. What kind of seats -- Bench, Individual reclining (the big "buckets" that almost or do touch), or Buckets (room for a console between seats). I also need to know if the buckets or bench backs recline. I don't think there were any other choices. 2. Type of covering -- plaid, vinyl, velour, leather, etc. 3. Main color of interior. This is usually the vinyl sides of the seats and main color of door panels. 4. Date of manufacture from the sticker on the door if it's there. I record these along with the final assembly number (last number without a label on door tag). This will help estimate what month cars were built in when the sticker is gone. I'll eventually make all this info available. I'm NOT recording owners names or VINs to protect privacy. The numbers on the door tag can't be used for ownership identification, just the VIN. -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Independent Magazine" (AIM) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AIM.html (free download available!)
