If you use a 390 or 401 crank in one of the smaller engines you'll have to check clearance between the bottoms of the bores and crank counter weights, most need notching. Other than that get the bores and strokes and do the math! Not trying to be a smart ass here. Very few people have a reson to use odd combos. 360s are easy enough to come by, and most prefer the cubes to building a 304 block with 360 crank. WHAT ARE YOU SAYING??? "Most prefer the cubes to building a 304 block with 360 crank"??? Are you NUTS! A 304 crank is THE SAME CRANK as a 360 CRANK. SAME Stroke. SAME AMC Part number. AMC 290 & 343 engines share the SAME stroke (3.28") and the SAME CRANK. AMC 304 & 360 engines are essentially a stroked versions of 290 & 343 engines. An AMC 304 has the SAME Bore as an AMC 290 (3.75") An AMC 360 has the SAME bore as an AMC 343 (4.08") AMC 304 & 360 engines share the SAME stroke (3.44") and the SAME CRANK. All of these engines use the same rods (again same part numbers) If you were to put a 360 crank into a 304 block you would get a 304 engine. If you were to put a 360/304 crank into a 290 block you would have a 304 engine. If you were to put a 360/304 crank into a 343 block you would have a 360 engine. This isn't rocket science. You increase displacement by increasing the bore and/or stroke. Putting a 3.44" crank into a block originally designed for a 3.44" stroke doesn't accomplish a damm thing. DUH! Tom Bunsey The 390 and 401 cranks are harder to come by, so it gets expensive to use one of those in a 360 or 343 block. I can see using a 360 crank in a 304 for a turbo or blown engine, maybe, as the thicker cylinder walls will make the block a good bit stronger, and the 360 crank will give a few more cubes. > AGAIN, A 360 CRANK IN A 304 BLOCK WILL GIVE 304 CUBIC INCHES!!! > > On January 26, 2005 wrote: > > > Not a single post, come on guys, someone has to know something. > > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: mail-return@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:mail-return@xxxxxxxxxxxx] > > Sent: Monday, January 24, 2005 12:06 PM > > Subject: STROKER engines show your AMC intellect!! > > > > > > I managed to misspell stroker and use the word intellect in the same > > sentence, gotta love Mondays. > > > > ~John > > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: mail-return@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:mail-return@xxxxxxxxxxxx] > > Sent: Monday, January 24, 2005 11:25 AM > > Subject: Stoker engines show your AMC intellect!! > > > > > > Speaking of stroker combinations (always fun I say) who knows what parts can > > go with what and make stroker combinations.
