I had one of those fan thermostatic switches with the sensor, the instructions said to insert it into the top hose, came with foam tape and all this rot to seal it. Instead, I laid the sensor (a 1/4" or so "bulb") in the top seam of the radiator tank, and put a thin film of silicone rubber over it. THe thermal coupling is just fine; it worked perfectly, was much more physically secure and no possibility for leaking. > Autotronics makes a nice one that has a ground wire that would be needed with the radiator hose mount, but the sensor itself is $80! The one I used was under $20 from Kragen.
