Re: More on Disk swap on 72 Gremlin

" Would someone check a parts book on the rotor issue here? I know about the composite pistons. Finding a caliper with composite pistons is very unlikely because of the failure rate. The pistons (or whole caliper) were replaced by AMC on warranty in most cases, by the owner when they started leaking in others. If a car had been driven much they would have been replaced within a couple years at most.
"
" I believe the rotors are all the same from 77-83 except for the 77-79 four cylinder models (2.0L), which used a solid rotor.

just checked my napa book - two rotors, '77-8 and '79-83, for the six
and v8 cars, and a mess for the fours - one part for concords and
spirits, another for gremlins even though years overlap, and no
listing for hornets.

'77-'81 calipers share many parts, including pistons and seal kits
etc. and they footnote suffixes for steel, aluminum, or phenolic
plastic pistons. pads are the same also, one for sixes, one for
fours.

i -believe- four and six calipers are the same and thicker pads are
used to make up for the thinner rotors.

inference: likely one could use '79-'83 rotors in place of '77-8 ones,
and vented six rotors and pads in place of solid four ones.
