Dick Datson at work again! Actually, this is something I've figured out as well, though I haven't taken it so far as to build one. The Gator is a turbo charger compressor mounted to a steel plate. The second steel plate has a bearing that can take the side force of a belt drive. Turbo bearings won't last more than a few minutes with a heavy side load like a belt would have. The short shaft with the pulley is linked to the turbo compressor shaft, eliminating any possibility of side loading the compressor bearing. Note the small size of the pulley on the input shaft. That's needed to get speed up on the turbine. Should work great, and reduce plumbing for a turbo. Shouldn't be to hard to build one yourself from junkyard and hardware store parts. -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Independent Magazine" (AIM) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AIM.html (free download available!)
