A: That was the first year of the low fuel light. Later models work reverse, but the earlier ones (back to Hornets) should work. Just will be slightly off due to different resistance values. I used an '84 Eagle resistance board off a sender to patch the one in my '83 Cherokee and just rebent the arm to get the readings close enough.
