The AMX is less engin and trans, and is originally a 360 go pack 4spd, w/ unknown rear gear. I was wondering if anyone had input on the rear end swap. The engine will fit, but mounts will have to be fabbed as well as a new cross member. Looking for input here, not criticism about putting a Ford in an AMC, I have a car, with no drive train, and a complete wrecked 320hp Cobra with a good one. Thanks in advance and all suggestions(and opinions) are welcome. Steve Avery, are you still here?? Happy new year all! ============================== Avery is around here someplace....... check behind those Kegs :) As to your Ford Swap - > Go for it ! Sounds like an Incredible PowerTrain Package you've got in stock - . To my mind - AMC has had Ford Parts / GM Parts over the years - and a cool pollenate is a cool powerplant! Yes - the purists will decry you're not selling your Cobra motor / trans & using those monies to find a rebuildable 401 - sink a few thou. rebuilding it - then another yard or so for a trans - and whatever else is needed inbetween .......... Suite1 for someone with unlimited yardage - unlimited time and fanatically determination...... but............. as a B'one' for those Fanatics - realize that the car will be back in Action almost immediately - with cash going into its' restoration / upgrades - so that should there be a need to revert to the AMC powertrain - one would be ready to go! I drove a friends Ford F-250 awhile back & couldn't get over how great the engine sounded & felt - compared to the older stocked pushrod engines I'm used to. The New 2005 Mustang exhaust system sounds incredible! Whomever in Design has done their homework for audible Growl & Snot.......... So........ do it up and Happy Hunting ! The IRS should go in nicely - measure out the track. When I researched these a year or so ago - I found you'd need to put in spring perches and some odds & ends to use the rear IRS kpl. Lincoln runs this system & uses an Aluminum Center Section - and other bits too. Sounds as if you've a K'illah' ! Brien.
