If the stock 72 intake won't work for some reason, you can get a stock 80-90 258 intake (84- 90 is Eagle or Jeep YJ). The Jeep headers will usually hang down way to far even if they fit. You could try one for a 4.0L, but engine mounts or steering may get in the way. ================================= Get the '81 and up Intake manifold. AMC spent huge amounts of cash getting it to flow properly - and is all alloy - and is water heated / cooled. The Moab Jeep race engine builders use this in preference above the Clifford - which they don't use. They add a 4bbl carb adapter - and smooth it in. The JEEP Wrangler header usually hangs down too far - but the Cherokee doesn't. The Cherokee 4.0 header is the last bright hope for the AMC 6 Headers upgrade - need to find out definitively if it is only the '88 - '90 units or if the '91 - '99 HO units will work as well. I believe the downward depth is OK - it is that with the '91 & up Manifold - the pipes gather more toward the center of the engine rather than at the rearward - as the '88-'90 do. Brien.
