I assume you mean the 196 aluminum block. I measured my aluminum six
tonight in dim light and the freeze blocks on the side of the block opposite
the distributor are huge (3 inches or thereabouts). But there are other
clues to tell if it's at aluminum block:
The block has vertical ridges or thick strakes and there are well-defined
insets for each of the spark plugs. There is a full flow oil filter down by
the oil pump. The cast iron motors have that inverted partial flow filter
sitting where it will spill the maximum amount of oil when changed.

Subject: Freeze plug size?
Hi all
Does anyone know, offhand, exactly what size freeze plugs were used in a
1963 model 199 aluminum block, specifically the big ones on the starter
side?
Thanks
