An opportunity has come up for me to buy a car that I've coveted for a
while and I need to let something go to make room for it so I'm selling my
1966 Rambler Rebel. Here's the details on it:
MODEL: Rambler Classic Rebel
YEAR: 1966
BODY STYLE: 2-door hardtop
ENGINE: 350 Chevy 4-barrel (originally had a 287)
TRANSMISSION: Automatic
COLOR: original Brittiana Blue exterior, two tone blue vinyl interior with
bucket seats
MILEAGE: 78,000 original miles
LOCATION: Cincinnati, OH
E-MAIL ADDRESS: mhaas@xxxxxxx
ASKING PRICE: $800/best offer
The car is, to the best of my knowledge, complete with the exception of the
passenger side rocker molding, a few drive train parts (shocks and drive
shaft, if memory serves), exhaust, and rear brakes. I originally purchased
this car to build into a drag racer so the stock drive train was removed
(the engine was messed up when I got it) and I started installing a Chevy
350 with TH-350 (both out of a 73 Chevy C20) and a narrowed Ford 9 inch
with ladder bars and a diagonal brace (additional work will need to be done
on the ladder bar installation -- I was originally going to back half it
and install a 4-link after I realized what I was building wasn't very
strong). I tried not to hack the car up and with a little work, a stock
drive train (or at least and AMC engine and tranny) could be reinstalled. I
don't know if the still engine runs or not but it did about 5 years ago. If
it if runs, it (and the transmission) will need a rebuild before you drive
it much. I think they have a little over 200,000 miles on them.
I also rewired the front half of the car (all electrical parts, including
the push button AM radio were working when I last messed with it) and
replaced all of the brake lines. The front brakes and master cylinder were
replaced but since the car's been sitting almost 8 years since those were
replaced, it would be a good idea to replace them again. The gas tank has
been cleaned and sealed and I think I replaced the fuel strainer and
o-ring. The fuel sender was checked and it works. The radiator was boiled
out, leak checked, and painted.
There is some minor body damage to the car. The passenger door is dented
slightly from the original owner's daughter backing out of their garage in
the early 70's (my grandparents purchased the original owner's house in the
late 80's and the garage door mouldings still had the scar). The door opens
and closes okay and I have a good used door handle to replace the one that
was broken. The passenger rocker panel is dented (there may be some minor
damage to the fender as well) from two owners before me (he lived across
the street from the original owners and I bought it from his mom). It has
some heavy surface rust in places but is still rock solid and should be
relatively easy to fix. There's also a rust spot on the driver's side
quarter panel. I know it's small but I don't remember exactly how bad it
is. The only other problem body-wise is that the cowl is rusted out around
the opening for the heater box. Also, the windshield is cracked and will
need to be replaced. I have a new gasket for it (it's needs to be altered
-- the hard top and convertible gaskets were not available when I purchased
it). The rest of the glass is in good shape.
The interior is mostly good. The drivers seat was cracked and there's some
damage to the top of the back seat but the vinyl is pretty supple and you
may be able to repair both seats if you can find matching material. The
carpet is pretty worn out and the sill plates are corroded but you can get
those new. The headliner and door panels looked almost like new. I don't
recall what the dash pad looks like but I don't remember it being cracked.
Also included in this price are a complete electric windshield wiper setup,
an extra front clip, a car cover, a TSM, the original window sticker, all
the receipts, and whatever extra parts I have for it.
The car has a clear title. Pictures of it can be seen at
http://www.mattsoldcars.com/gallery/mycar.shtml (it doesn't sit funny
anymore -- one of the last things I did to it before I quit working on it
was to square up the rear suspension) and you can see the original window
sticker at http://www.mattsoldcars.com/gallery/images/rebelsticker.jpg
(trim code and VIN are on the sticker). Weather permitting, I'm going to
(literally) pull the car out of the garage this weekend, see if it runs,
and take some current pictures.
This is a package deal. I will not pull parts off or sell my extra stuff
separately.
If you have any questions about this car, feel free to send me an email at
