Cutting the drums for spacers would actually be a real good idea! never thought of it. you would eleminate the corrosion problems of dissimilar metals you get when using aluminum spacers. They would be easy for any auto shop to do. You could seperate the center on any shop lathe. You could do it on a brake lathe for that matter. Just use an old bit and very slowly manually feed the bit through the drum. You may want to leave it slightly attached and knock the drum rim off with a hammer to avoid taking a chance on damaging the brake lathe when the rim comes loose and flops around. Rough edges can be cleaned up by putting it back in the lathe. I don't think you can get wheel spacers that thin from the auto parts store. The last time I needed spacers (original spacers can be a little hard to find), I was going to try cutting them out of old (bad) rear brake drum centers. They are about the right thickness and they already have the lug pattern cut into them. All you would have to do is cut them in the right diameter. I never did try this idea so I am not sure if it would work. > >Has anyone tried this idea? > > > > > >On November 18, 2004 w.couty wrote: > >> Thanks for the information.
