Re: import craze

You haveto give credit some of there cars run low 11s or faster and still gat 25 plus miles per gal. What gets me where do they get there money to buy 25 to30 thousand dollar car then put all the speed parts on. We had to work our buts off to buy our car then save and save to make it go faster. They just put it on a card. I seen these guys race for up to 1000 dollars on the street. iguess iam just getting to old lol

Where I live there is a plaza that has a local Ricer contingent, they all
talk smack until my buddies and I roll up. Seems that they are always still
testing their combos and aren't ready to race when faced with real cars.

My disdain for them is tempered though because I realize that when I was 17
I was paying the prices then for the cars they buy now. How the heck is a
kid today supposed to buy himself a 'cuda or GTO or AMX when they all now
cost 3 to 10 times more then they did 15 years ago? I hate their cars but at
least they are trying I guess.

A: I agree on the Pacer not being ugly (although the plastic interior trim
leaves something to be desired) As for outgunning the punks with Rice
rockets, My '73 J4000 gives them quite a surprise too. For having "only" a
304 with TH400 and 33" tires with newer J20 Dana 60 full float, it can still

scoot! I have real fun when I put it in low range and get on it. The tires
both smoke in the rear (I have the part time kit in my QT) and I get to 35
mph right away!

..a bright green 71 Jav pulled up to the
stoplight. Then in the lane next to it pulls a late
model Acura. The guy in the acura started reving the
wheezing 4 banger to challenge the jav i guess. The
guy in the jav just laughed at him, When the light was
green they took off in a cloud of tire smoke, the
Acura had him out of the hole, then the jav hit second
and left the little jap car in the dust....

most don't really care about AMC and just
remembers the ugly cars like the pacer.

----------------------------------------

Pacers are ugly? Different, yes...but ugly is
a school-bus yellow Pontiac Aztec, or a Yugo.

As for the import story, two nights ago I was
at a light in my '95 F150 when a 2001+ Civic
stopped along side. Now, my 10-year-old F150 is
no powerhouse. It's got an enemic 5.0L with a
automatic trans, 4WD, 8-foot bed, and a bed cap
covering a plethora of construction tools and
other gear....and both tanks were at 3/4 full.

The Civic had such hi-perf stuff as a coffee-can
muffler, 17 or 18" wheels, lots of tint and several
nifty rice-boy stickers.

Given his weight advantage and 5-speed trans, he
should have stomped all over me.

Just after the light, the two lanes merged to one.
When the light went green, we both wanted to be in
front by the merge. well, that little 4-banger did
all it could to stay door-to-door with my 115k miles-
old truck. By the merge, I simply let off as if
neither did, we were gonna trade paint. Naturally,
once he had the lead, he slowed to a crawl to let me
admire his car's tail lights. After another mile, I
got fed up and passed him illegally. His car had no
ability to prevent it, hard as that little egg beater
whined.

And of course, once I was in front, he found a reason
to wanna go faster now and tail gated me for miles...
even tho I was going 20mph faster than he did when he
was leading.

Wish my 360 Hornet had been my ride that day!
