Crane had a recent price increse on the AMC Hydraulic Roller parts. The
cams went up a little, but llifters went up $51.00 OUCH.
The same cam /lifter package that used to be $800.00 from us, shipping &
insurance included just went up to $860.00. And, we did not pass 100% of
the increase along, we are eating a bit of it.
Performance costs money, how fast do you want to go??
Yes, some will tell you that you can make comparable power with a
properly ground Solid lifter cam. Ain't so. No solid lifter grind can
equal the lift rate of a roller. It hust ain't ever gonna happen. I did
not say, ''every roller ever made will make more power than any solid
cam ever made. '' What i said is, give me any specd, anything in lift
and duration, then grind the solid cam to that lift, with the maximum
ramp it can achieve, and it will make less power than the same Roller
cam ground to that lift and duration. If the lift happens Faster[rate of
lift, then it makes more power simply because for every degree of
rotation the valve is lifted higher than the solid, because the ramp can
be ground much more agressivly before you get into the Edege of the
lifter. The lifter diameter is the determining issue with relation to
lift rate. A roller lifter has no edge for practicle purposes. The lift
ramp is however controlled by the diamerter of the lifter wheel, and
that diameter is controled by the overall lifter diameter. Larger lifter
diameter means a larger lifter wheel can be used which give the
AMC/MOPARS a big advantage over the .742 Chevy lifter size. Roller or
flat tappet, an AMC cam, in any form CAN be ground to provide more power
than any equivelent Chevy grind simply because of the lifter diameter.
If roller cams were not more effective then they would never have been
adopted by most auto manufacturers. And guess what?? Most every Harley
ever built, no matter the year runs a roller lifter. If Flat tappets
COULD be just as good, then manufactureres would not spend the extra
money it costs to produce engines with the rollers. Folks spend more
money for higher technology. A roller is just that, higher tech. Does
everyone need one?? Certainly not. But don't fool yourself, or try to
fool others into thinking a flat tappet is just as good at making power,
it is not, and it will never be. Physics is still physics and nothing
can change those laws, not even Cubic Money, or someones, WISH it could
be different.
Anyway, Price just went up for those contemplating such parts.
