Re: Motor Oil For Older Engines

It's nice to know someone agrees with me!
I've gone with 5,000 mile oil changes ever since I started driving.
[1979] Never had a problem or sludge buildup in anything I've owned.
Consumer reports did an oil study in the 80's that agreed. 5,000 miles was the break point, at 5500-6000 mile mark the oil starts to fail. 3,000 mile changes are simply a way for the oil companies and lube places to make money and waste oil.
I don't argue with people, I just do it my way, by the way, My wife's Altima just clicked over 99,000 miles with nothing being done to it but replacing a leaking valve cover gasket! It has always had 5,000 mile changes with an occasional 5,500 just because we were busy. This car does not use one drop of oil between changes either!
My 96 Cherokee had 89,000 on it with no problems only difference was I used Pennzoil Synthetic in it because it improved the fuel mileage over dino oils.
 I always replace the filter!
