Gas and diesel engines often share the same oil. Check the oil bottle where the certifications are. There will be an S and a C rating, something along the line of SH CE or whatever. The S is for a spark ignited engine (gas) and the C is for a combustion fired engine (diesel). Over the years oil has become more highly refined and improved, with the ratings going up. Most AMC engines were probably built in the SC or SD era; today I think oils have progressed to SJ. Wonder what they will do when they go past SZ.
