Jay,
MSD contends the reason everyone [not just AMC, but Chevy, & Ford too]
is having distributor gear and cam gear problems. The gear issue has
gotten so bad they are now designing Chevy cams with a press on rear
gear so the entire cam does not need replacing. Ford has come up with
different compositions of steel for their gears.
I been passing this info now for nearly a year and everyone looks at me
like I am from some alien world.
ZINC is indeed a great lubricant that used to be emusified in our oil.
It is gone now and the oil experts have not come up with a good
replacement for it, so.. we have lubrication issues.
However don't believe every oil made for diesels is for sure to have
Zinc. May Car oils & Diesel oils are the same, they carry the same
rating such as SE, SG, etc. Same rating, same bottle, that means some
diesel oil also is lacking zinc.
Thanks for bringing this up, now maybe everyone will take a look before
dismissing the idea.
Regards,
Randy Guynn
