Re: 440H for sale

A: I thought about grafting the front 1/2 of the XJ 2 dr I have to a
Comanche to make an extended cab (to make room for my usual bunch of tools
and stuff) but alas, I don't have time or money for that project since I
have too many in progress already!

If the job was done properly, there's absolutely nothing to fear from the
car.

A unibody car (such as all of our AMCs are) can be sectioned and joined with
a corresponding section from an identical car with no problems provided
whoever is doing it knows what they're doing. This is the same process you'd
use to create a stretch limousine, and you know how many people they can
cram into THOSE!

If the car is solid and has no rust issues, and is presentable, I certainly
wouldn't sacrifice it just on the fact that it had been sectioned.

If you have doubts about the car, do as was previously suggested and take it
to your body shop and have them evaluate the repair. If they say it's
structurally sound, why not drive and enjoy it? If they say it's unsafe, by
all means save the good stuff and don't drive it.

On a car such as this one, the most common place to section it is through
the A-pillars and across the front floorboards. This is a common and
accepted way to repair unibody cars that have suffered serious structural
issues due to collision or rust.

I worked at and eventually managed a body shop for about 14 years. I do know
what I'm talking about.
