The third Rambler I drove when I was a teenager was a spliced car! It had been hit hard in the right front with 300 miles on it. They totalled it. 65 American 232 hardtop 440, The guys at the dealership bought it for a few hundred. Cut the offending corner off the car Brazed, yes brazed!, in a right front frame rail from another total and sold it. The car was driven for 198,000 miles then parked as it was rusted out in the rear quarters pretty bad. The owner gave it to my dad. My dad and brother pop rivetted and durglassed the rear quarters and painted it, Don't laugh it looked real respectable! My brother drove it for a year, then it was given to me. I drove it till it had 214,000 miles on it and parked it in a garage as I had moved on to Fords[ The missguided youth thing!] Anyway. After a year I stumbled on a 68 Javelin with a 343 4 barrel and four speed in it. I tried to talk dad into letting me put the 343 in that American and he was getting close to giving in when tragidy struck and the garage burned to the ground. We lost 7 vehicles. ! The American was one of them :[ I would not part out a car that was spliced unless I had proof or could see that it was a hackjob. The only thing that really scares me is when they cut a roof off a rollover and weld a new one on. As you cannot tell, after it is done, how much strength is in the repair, unless you witness the actual work. A lot of times they mig the new roof on and grind away the welds till there is no strength in them. It looks good, but it is crap and if you roll the car again you are dead real quick as the roof will peel away like tissue paper. Have the car checked out before parting it out. If I was close to Oregon I would love to have the body, Always wanted a 64-65 American to toy with!
