Re: Need info/engine+tranny in a bit (eagle)

Best bet for the Eagle is a 4.0L. More power than a 304, and you can keep your trans. You should be able to find a rusted out XJ Cherokee up that way easy enough. For best results use the EFI and the AW4 auto (or five speed) from the Jeep. You'll need custom length driveshafts and to modify the trans crossmember, but it would be worth it! Get the gears from a four cylinder Eagle -- the AW4 needs a lot moore gear than the 998 trans (Jeeps run 3.55 gears). You can use the rear axle from a Cherokee if you change the spring mounts, not sure if the gears from the Chero front axle would fit the Eagle but I think they do. It would be easier than a V-8 swap too! With a CPS relocation kit from Advance Adapters you can use the 998. If you really want some power toss the 258 crank and rods in the 4.0L for a 4.6L stroker. You'll need to be careful about choosing cams, but depends on which 4.0L you get (87-90 Renix or later HO) and a few parts choices for the stroker.
