The biggest thing to remember is rarity doesn't necessarily transpose to collectibility and/or value. It's a popularity contest, mostly. You can have a one of one car, which one would think to be valuable, but if no one is interested in it what's it really worth? Rocky has a good point too -- the Matador Machine wasn't really advertised by AMC. It was really just an option package -- no special paint or even stripes, just the "Machine" decals. Easy to clone cars don't usually command high prices, though there are exceptions like the Donohue Javelin. That goes back to the popularity thing though!

So much of this is ones perspective. There is probably a lot of scarce
AMC's. Forgive me for my foolishness but I never really knew where the title
"Matador Machine" even came from. Clever title, but if it wasn't advertised
in hardcopy by AMC in some way with documentation it is just a clever title
for a very rare optioned car. Larry Blatt's 67 Rogue X code was one of 50
something that were built. I think there is only 2 or 3 known survivors of
that run. Someone fill me in.
