" Hey Everyone,
"
" My name's John and I'm new to the list and new to AMC cars. I just picked
" up a '65 Rambler Ambassador 990 with the 327 V8 and I'm looking to build it
" out as a muscle car over the next two years or so. It seems to be running
" fine, so nothing too major on the motor to start with but just about every
" light (headlights, turn lights, brakes, etc) are shot. I've looked online
" for bulbs at all the common places like Napa and Kragen but couldn't find
" any bulbs for this car. Any ideas? I guess my next step will be to take
" the bulbs out and go down to one of the shops and see what they can dig up.
" I'd also like some pointers to a service manual if any are available for
" this thing. When I do get to working on the motor, is there any common
" methods to building this 327 out or should I consider dropping something
" else in such as a 350?

listen to jeff!

the headlights are actually 5 3/4", but that is the std you'll see on
all the old quad-headlight cars.

2356/2357 are even brighter than 2056/2057, and there are some brighter
yet bulbs used on some bmws iirc that fit. i'd start wondering about
heat on the lenses though.

and a note: there's a sub for the dashboard lights that's brighter,
and it works fine everywhere but the alt indicator. that ckt depends
on the characteristics of the original bulb and will glow with the sub
even when everything's fine.

the 327 is surprisingly powerful, considering, but if you have to have
more a '70-1 amc 360, 390, or 401 with auto would be your best bet.
the auto with them is a b-w m12, close to your m-10 but stronger, and
easily connected to your closed driveline with the m-10 adapter.

i'll just add for completion that these iron warners are close cousin
to the ford fmx family used '50s-'70s and that ford also used warners
in the '70s.

you might want to do a late-model-amc disk brake swap, and wider
wheels - at least hornet/concord 14x6" but maybe even 14x7" turbocasts.
wonder if they'd take the ambo full wheelcovers?
