Re: Badger Pistons

I've had Badger Pistons in a 390, and have blown a Badger Piston due to high RPM's. They are absolutely fine for regular driving or the occassional blast down the track if you keep the revs say under 5500 rpms. But talking from experience, why would you want to use cast pistons in a high performance engine? I built the original 390 not planning to really run it hard, but got into autocrossing after the fact. The Badger Pistons did last one season but that was it, and once a piston goes, a few more parts are also lost. Next build I did not hesitate going with JE forged Pistons. (Maddog Racing and Nick Alfano now offer in-stock forged pistons at a good price).

If you plan on running your engine hard, go with forged pistons and have the peace of mind that they will last, otherwise, the cost of a rebuild will soon have you wishing you did. If you don't plan on running your engine hard, Badgers are fine. Just my two cents from having used both cast and forged in a hard run engine.
