{FORGED?} Paint Stripping Info Needed

I just picked up a set of 77 Hornet AMX flairs and front spoiler that are painted with what I am pretty sure is painted with laquer without the addition of the additive to make the paint flexible. I can hear the paint cracking when I bend the flairs. What can I use to strip off the paint that will not destroy the rubbery plastic they are made of? The set came with 3 extra flairs so I have one that is damaged that I will use one of the spares instead of it so I have a painted one to experiment with. Being a model car builder we use Castrol Super Clean to strip models but it does not work on laquer. Also there is a model stripper for plastic models that strips laquer from plastic but at 8$ a pint it is too expensive to even think about useing. Sanding all of the paint off would be a a real pain but I will if I have too. I am looking for the easiest way out of this.
