The 63-64 models have a bayonet (threaded stud) end on both ends. 65-66
has the bayonet on top, an "eye" end on the bottom. You can use the
65-66 type on the 63-64 my making a "U" bracket and welding to the lower
arm or using a bolt through the bracket into the original shock mount
hole. The eye end shock actually works a little better, it allows the
suspension to move up and down with a bit less restriction.
Gabriel has a Classic Shock program where you can custom order a shock
for your car. Sears used to handle Gabriel shocks, but anyone who does
can special order them for you. Gabriel looks through their old records
for the length and stroke for the original shock then takes a tube they
make closes to that size and puts the correct ends on it. They are all
1-3/16" piston gas charged shocks, so they are modern technology. I have
them on my 63 Classic and they work great. Been on there since 1999 --
might be time for new. When/if I put new ones on I'll switch to the
65-66 eye type though.
