Eddie, the front diff will have a tag on it telling you what the ratio is. Front and rear will be matched within 4%. The brackets can be cut and welded from the eagle axle to the XJ one, or get aftermarket shock mounts from a 4x4 shop and shorter rear shocks . I found a 1990 Cherokee rear end here in Houston for $200 end to end, and someone has a 83(?) Eagle they are parting out which has same A and 2 on the back mine has, but like me, have not pulled off the cover to see what gear actually in there. The car is still at mechanic's shop while I continue to look for a rear. This 81 Eagle does have the selector on the dash also for 2wd to 4wd. What year XJ were you talking about maybe I can get on a Houston hotline here and see if some of those available also. The salvage yard told me to 'come on out' and look at the one(s) they have end to end. My Eagle has staggered shocks while the Jeep ones have same side shocks in back.
