RE: tire sizes

Well after an expensive 18x9" rim fiasco I have modified my opinion on what fits. I'm ordering 16x8 zero offset rims for the front and 17x9 zero offset rims for the back now. That equates to approximately 4.5" backspacing on the front and 5" backspacing on the rear. That will move my rims out .25 inches front and .75 inches rear from the 15x7 inch rims currently on the car. Mopar Action had a great article in the Feb 6 issue (still on news stands) that really really really helped with understanding offset vs. backspacing issue. Section width is VERY important when scribbling all of this out. Here is a site with a really good calculator www.1010tires.com. I'm using 245/45/16 in the front and 255/45/17 in the rear this makes the rear 1.35 inches taller then the front which is a look I was going for. I know that more tire can be crammed in there, but this appears to be totally safe and should not rub. I COULD BE WRONG so measure EVERYTHING yourself before plunking down your cash. I got burned with bad advise with the 18/9s and will not make the same mistake again. Oh this is for my 1971 Javelin which is the same as your car, the earlier narrow body AMX and Javelins are not exactly the same.
