this is one area where a v8 might be a win. a 287 would have more
even mixture distribution than a 232 and could pull a taller gear even
with o/d.
when my folks got their '66 bel air wagon, it was just about
completely stripped - 230 six, 3sp etc. i argued for the stiffest h/d
suspension which they didn't go for, but after we got it they admitted
i was right...
i also argued for a 283 instead of the 230 because it got better
mileage, 23 vs. 20 mpg. i was astonished to say the least when i
first read that in the reviews, but on reflection it does make sense.
