Ammeter problem depends on the application. The 75-up Rallye Pak ammeter gets its information through a couple of 14 or 16 gauge wires, which obviously don't carry a huge load. The ammeter in these Rallye Paks aren't a major conductor for the vehicle's electrical load.
On older cars and Jeeps, however, the ammeter is load-bearing. I've seen numerous FSJs with burnt up dashboards as a result of a crappy ammeter. These Jeep ammeters are fed by 10 gauge wires, so it's obvious they carry some current. 
So, the 75-newer ammeter doesn't pose as big a threat to vehicle safety as the older ones do, and it's functionality is marginal at best, but for those who desire a correct, stock appearance, there is no suitable substitute. It's a shame that AMC never used a voltmeter in these setups like they did in the Eagles, even though the Eagles and Spirit/Concords overlapped for a few years. 
It would be really nice if someone could have a stock-appearing lens made for the 75-newer Rallye Pak for a voltmeter that would allow usage of an Eagle voltmeter---this would solve a few problems!
In regards to a junction block for the ammeter connection at the solenoid area--I've used a simple junction block I buy here at Year One for a Chevelle application (part number 7562N, costs $8.60) that looks nice and works well. You might even be able to pick one up at your local auto parts store or stereo shop. There isn't a specific junction block you *have* to use.

The ammeter is a source of car fires in many instances because it must have a good bit of juice flowing through it to wok. I'd consider replacing the stock ammeter with an aftermarket volt meter. It doesn't need a load running through it.
