They used metal and plastic like you see. Some differences in the later years is how the bolt down. Some bolted around the base others bolted down by 2 studs on the top of the cover. I found one that actually have both?!? Told it came off a Jeep. Plastic ones are notorious for leaking after time. So everyone wants to go to metal if they have a problem leaking. There light weight metal ones NOS style then the heavier aluminum ones. Hope this helps.
